Chicago Band

The band Chicago was formed in 1967, in Chicago, Illinois, initially under the name The Big Thing. Soon after, they changed it to Chicago Transit Authority, releasing their first double album in 1969, which quickly drew attention for its unique blend of rock, jazz, soul, and classical music, highlighted by a powerful horn section. Following its success, the group shortened its name to Chicago, solidifying its identity.

The classic lineup featured Robert Lamm (keyboards, vocals), Peter Cetera (bass, vocals), Terry Kath (guitar, vocals), Danny Seraphine (drums), James Pankow (trombone), Lee Loughnane (trumpet), and Walter Parazaider (saxophone, flute, clarinet).

Throughout the 1970s, Chicago became one of the most popular bands in the United States, scoring hits such as 25 or 6 to 4, Saturday in the Park, and If You Leave Me Now. After the tragic death of Terry Kath in 1978, the band went through changes but continued to achieve success, especially in the 1980s, when they reached massive popularity with romantic ballads like Hard to Say I’m Sorry and You’re the Inspiration.

Over the decades, Chicago has released more than two dozen studio albums, experimented with different lineups and styles, yet remained true to its signature: the fusion of rock with powerful horns and elaborate arrangements. The band is still active today and is regarded as one of the most enduring and successful groups in rock history.
