Founded in 1981 by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, Metallica established itself as one of the greatest heavy metal bands of all time, known for its explosive blend of heaviness, speed, and intricate melodies. Throughout its journey, the group underwent several lineup changes but maintained the essence that revolutionized metal. Initially formed by James Hetfield (vocals and rhythm guitar), Lars Ulrich (drums), Dave Mustaine (lead guitar), and Ron McGovney (bass), Metallica soon experienced lineup changes that stabilized with the addition of Kirk Hammett (lead guitar) and Cliff Burton (bass). After Burton’s tragic death, Jason Newsted took over on bass, and later, Robert Trujillo became the band’s definitive bassist. Despite the challenges, Metallica continued to reinvent itself, releasing iconic albums that redefined heavy metal without losing the energy that made them legendary.
